What Makes a Number Plate Road Legal?
For a number plate to be road legal in the UK, it must meet several requirements set by the DVLA and the British Standard. The plate must be manufactured to BS AU 145e standard, use reflective material, and display the correct Charles Wright font with standard character spacing.
The plate must also include the supplier's name and postcode, display the British Standard number (BS AU 145e), and be produced by a DVLA-registered supplier. All our road legal plates meet these requirements — we are a registered supplier and every plate is marked accordingly.
BS AU 145e Standard
The BS AU 145e standard is the British Standard for number plates, updated in September 2021. It specifies requirements for material strength, reflectivity, colour, and durability. All new number plates must meet this standard.

DVLA Registered Supplier Requirements
Under the Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001, only DVLA-registered suppliers can legally manufacture and sell road legal number plates. Registered suppliers must verify the customer's identity and vehicle entitlement before producing plates.
