What Are Green Number Plates?
Green number plates were introduced by the UK government in December 2020 to help identify zero-emission vehicles. They feature a green flash or strip on the left side of the plate, where the identifying letters or badge would normally sit.
The green flash makes it easy to identify electric and hydrogen vehicles, allowing them to benefit from local incentives such as free or discounted parking, exemption from congestion and ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ) charges, and access to zero-emission zones.
Who Is Eligible for Green Plates?
Green number plates are available for fully electric vehicles (BEVs) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) — essentially any vehicle that produces zero tailpipe emissions. Plug-in hybrids and conventional hybrids are not eligible, as they still produce emissions when using their combustion engine.
Your vehicle must be registered as zero-emission on the DVLA database. When you order, we verify your registration against the DVLA records to confirm eligibility before manufacturing your green plates.
